The issue of self-defense among society has grown in importance over the past few decades. This problem is a controversial one and demands objective approach and solution. Many people consider that having a handgun make them feel safer, others oppose this statement since they believe that having weapon increases aggravated assault. I think that every opinion has pluses and minuses. I base my opinion on the following points.
Firstly, people who support a permit of concealed handguns are sure that citizens need to be armed in order to be able to resist themselves while they can not rely on police forces for protection. Handgun permit in countries, with a high level of crime, is vitally important. It is proven, that robbery and assaults victims who used a gun to resist were less likely to be attacked or suffer an injury than those who used any other methods of self protection.
However, their opponents confute this statement and provide other researches were is obvious that concealed handguns can not deter the crime .They are convinced that members of the public who carry guns risk escalating every day disagreements into public shootouts especially in places where disputes frequently occurs, such as bars, at sporting events or in traffic. Moreover, according to questionnaire, more than a half of public would feel lees safe if they would know that a lot of people carry concealed guns.
In conclusion, taking into account all mentioned above, government together with social right protection organizations should implement actions in order to find an acceptable solution. Probably, a special scale of needed requirements should be developed and involvesuch parameters as the minimum age, no prior felony conviction, and no recent commitments to mental institutions.
