It is common knowledge that evidently increased youth violence nowadays is a matter of great importance. Some people consider violent video games as a source of youth violence. Other think there is no clear connection between two facts mentioned above. In the following essay I will discuss the both opinions.
The statistics testified that violent video games have been blamed for school shootings, increases in bullying, and violence towards women. Critics argue that these games desensitize players to real-life violence. In fact, it is common for victims in video games to disappear off screen when they are killed or for players to have multiple lives. Furthermore, video games reward players for simulating violence, and teach children that violence is an acceptable way for conflict-solving strategy.
However, advocates of video games argue that the researches have failed to show a link between violent video games and real-world violence. They state that violent games do not cause youth to be violent. Players have the ability to distinguish between fantasy and reality, hence this prevents them from emulating virtual violence in real life. Additionally, video games defenders stress that playing these games provides a safe outlet for aggressive and angry feelings.
Summarizing all written it should be said that this is one of government’s important responsibilities to control the issues of correlation between violent video games and youth violence. To my way of thinking, the question whether violent video games contribute to youth violence is rather serious and.
