 Even though globalization affects the world’s economies in a very positive way, its negative side should not be forgotten. Discuss its advantages and disadvantages.

Despite an undeniable fact that globalization positively influences the development of economic systems around the globe, on no account should its adverse effect be ignored. This essay will first discuss the liberalization of international trade as the main benefit of globalizing processes, followed by an analysis of the major drawback which is the harm it may cause to economies at an early stage of development.

One of the principal advantages of globalization is the unprecedented development of free trade that is being seen in all corners of the world. The reason for this is the advances in transportation and communication technologies that make possible the establishment and development of trade relationships between parties, which are located tens of thousands of kilometers from each other. As a consequence, plenty of nations started abolishing protective tariffs and duties to allow their businesses benefit from international trade, which, in turn, has led to the phenomenon called as «free trade».For example, according to recent research of the International Monetary Fund, the level of economic freedom in the global market has grown fifteen times since 1985.

The main disadvantage associated with globalization is believed to be the harmful impact on economies of nations that have just started their development. Rarely do people realize that domestic companies in such economies do not have needed competencies and financial power to compete with powerful multinational corporations. Therefore, the development of local companies is suppressed by international giants leading to the extinction of small national companies. For instance, having carried out research among developing countries, economists from the European University have revealed that the share of local businesses has decreased triple compared to it was in 2005.

In conclusion, not only does globalization have benefits, such as free trade, but it also brings the drawbacks, such as the negative effect on local small companies in the long run. If it were not for the controversy of this issue, the process of globalization would not raise numerous anti-globalist protests.
