IELTS advantages and disadvantages essay: Differences between countries

Differences between countries become less evident each year. Nowadays, all over the world, people share the same fashions, advertising, brands, eating habits and TV channels. Do the advantages outweigh the disadvantages of this.

It as an undeniable fact that nations are becoming less different from year to year. These days, different societies living around the globe tend to have the same tastes in relation to fashions, advertising, brands, eating habits and TV channels. I believe that the benefits of such globalizing processes far outweigh their drawbacks because they implicate that an increasing number of people are enhancing the quality of their living. This essay will first discuss improving the standards of living as the main benefit of cultural globalization, followed by an analysis of the major drawback which is the assumed loss of cultural identity by some communities.

One of the principal advantages of sharing the same cultural values is a positive change in the quality of living people have. The reason for this is that societies can normally adopt only those new values, which are more beneficial than existing ones. As a result, sharing the same fashions, advertising, eating preferences, brands and TV content is accompanied by enhancing the standards of living. For example, having carried out the research, the scientists from The International Monetary Fund have revealed that the quality of living in developing countries has increased three times compared to that in 2000.

The main disadvantage associated with such cultural unification is thought to be the possible loss of cultural identity by countries affected by this trend. Often do people presume that new values are rapidly replacing the old ones, which means that the original set of cultural features may be totally lost in time. However, it is clear that existing cultural uniqueness is only becoming less popular, despite this it continues to be shared by smaller societies. This is confirmed by a European university’s new study that has revealed the preservation of the root culture in all the nations since 1985.

In conclusion, in my opinion, the benefits of cultural unification outweigh the disadvantages in the long run because enhancing standards of living is far more important than the irrational fear to lose cultural identity. If it were not for globalization, the quality of living in less developed nations would be much lower.
